 Aluminium Windows For Today’s Homes and Office Buildings

Advertisment

Aluminium windows are windows where the frame or

casing is made of aluminium rather than vinyl, wood or

other material. These windows are among the most

commonly used types of windows  for industrial and

commercial buildings. Though these aluminium windows

offer significant benefits, they may not be the best window

type for certain situations.

Advantages

Many prefer aluminium windows for many reasons and include all or some of the following:

  • These windows are durable, can control noise well and require little maintenance;
  • Aluminium windows are also economical and used in many public buildings such as hospitals and schools;
  • Because of the strength and weight, aluminium windows are helpful for specific needs specially when looking for a specific design for a building;
  • Not like wooden windows, these aluminium windows are good at resisting moisture.

Minor setbacks

The number of benefits of aluminium windows outweighs some of its disadvantages.  They are not as good as other windows in serving as protection against hot or cold weather conditions.  These windows usually require a thermal break or sealant to reduce heat conduction. Therefore, more commercial and apartment buildings use aluminium windows than private homes.

Types

Casement Windows

Casement windows are large framed, made up of two panes and consider the most common type of aluminium windows.  These aluminium windows provide excellent ventilation; do not have rails to obstruct views; and keep the screen inside where it does not get dirty.  Variations of casement windows include non-opening casements, side-hung casements, and top-hung casements.  One or both panes of non-opening and side-hung casements do not open while top-hung casements allow only the bottom pane to open.

Pivot Windows

Pivot windows commonly find their way into owners of contemporary homes that are looking for low maintenance aluminium windows. This type of window swing right round their hinges, which are located centrally making it easy to reach the outside of the surface.  High-rise buildings and tower blocks require the use of these aluminium windows and their design allow the entry of maximum amount of natural light inside the house. Furthermore, these pivot windows are always secure and easy to clean.

Awning Windows

These aluminium windows are single-paned, mid-frame to large-frame, designed to swing outward or tilt out on their hinges to allow sufficient ventilation.  Awning windows are appropriate for small spaces and make an ideal accent when placed below or above a picture window.

When you think of casement, awning or pivot windows, the first type that comes to mind other than wood are aluminium windows.   It is not surprising to see that aluminium windows are still in wide use though others still do not see aluminium windows as the better choice. The hallmark of aluminium windows, especial window casings, is that it can produce a stunning picture-window look, which it appear as if one side or multiple sides of the building are made entirely of glass. All these benefits and features should be enough to make you consider use of aluminium windows for your offices and homes.
